Marketplace Open Enrollment for 2022 health insurance coverage will run from November 1, 2021, through January 15, 2022.
During this time, consumers can review and compare plan options and find out if they are eligible for financial assistance, which can help pay monthly premiums and reduce out-of-pocket costs when receiving services.
Consumers who enroll in Health Insurance Marketplace by midnight December 15 can get full-year coverage that starts January 1.
Everything You Need to Know About the Annual Open Enrollment Period
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) expanded the availability of financial assistance for coverage through the Marketplace, making financial aid available to more consumers and at greater levels. These benefits continue from 2021 into 2022 and are available to eligible new consumers and consumers returning to the Marketplace to shop for 2022.
As a result of the ARP, four in five consumers will be able to find health care coverage for $10 or less per month.
Individuals cannot be turned down for ACA-compliant health insurance during an open enrollment period because of their health status.
What happens if I don’t enroll in a plan during Open Enrollment?
If you don’t enroll in an ACA-compliant Health Insurance Marketplace plan by the end of Open Enrollment (January 15), your buying options will be limited until the next Open Enrollment starts in the fall of 2022.
Outside Open Enrollment, you can enroll in or change a Marketplace plan if you have a life event that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
Some qualifying life events that will qualify you for a SEP are loss of coverage through an employer, loss of coverage through a covered employee, and major family changes.
