Marketplace Special Enrollment Period Extended
This year, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the Special Enrollment Period for Marketplace health coverage now through August 15, 2021 – giving consumers additional time to take advantage of new savings through the American Rescue Plan. This action provides new and current enrollees an additional three months to enroll or re-evaluate their coverage needs with increased tax credits available to reduce premiums.
Call me at (912) 660-5236 – I can help you enroll in a plan that best meets your needs.
Consumers who are eligible and enroll under the SEP will be able to select a plan with coverage that could start as soon as the first month after plan selection. Current enrollees will be able to change to any plan available to them in their area.
During this extended enrollment period, uninsured people can sign up, and (in some state marketplaces) people already enrolled in the Marketplace have an opportunity to change plans. Even though this extended COVID-19 enrollment period is often referred to as a “special” enrollment period, you do not need to have a qualifying event (such as loss of other health coverage) to sign up during this time.
If you do not take advantage of this SEP, you will have to wait until the Open Enrollment Period to enroll in an individual health insurance policy for 2022. However, if you experience qualifying changes in circumstances during the year, you will have a special 60-day opportunity to enroll in Marketplace health plans outside of the OEP.
